Storytelling: The Montgomerys of Cowan

Please join us for a program on the Montgomery family of Cowan and Franklin County. The program will be held at the Cowan Center for the Arts on April 17, 2011 at 4:00 PM and presented by Steve Pearson of the Franklin County Historical Society.

The Hugh Montgomery family was among the first to relocate to Franklin County. Hugh’s second child Elizabeth is reported in some documents as the first white child born in the County (1803), but the honor may actually go to her husband, Samuel Miller of another prominent Cowan family, who was born in 1801 or 1802. The Montgomery family is also tied very closely to the Cowan family through several marriages. A future granddaughter of Hugh Montgomery would marry one of the most famous Confederate Generals in the War Between the States and he would visit Cowan during the Tullahoma Campaign on July 3, 1863.

Please join us for this 60 minute program on a fascinating Cowan family. Refreshments will also be available.
